Finding the correct size cone for your dog is extremely important when they are healing. In this article, we'll learn how to properly size your dog to get a right size cone.
1. Measure Your Dog's Neck Circumference
First, Let’s measure the neck. Measure the circumference of your dog’s neck carefully. Remember, snugly but not too tightly. You can use a cloth tape or cable to measure it if you don’t have a measuring tape.
Ideally you want to measure where your dog's collar seats. Make sure your dog’s collar is not too loose on the neck.
2. Measure The Length Between Neck And The Nose
Once you figure out where their collar sits, let’s measure the length between your dog’s neck and the nose. What you want to do is measure from the collar on their neck to the tip of their snout. Use a ruler or measuring tape and you just measure in a straight line! Make sure the cone should be longer than the snout.
3. Find the Right Size Based On The Measurements
Check our size chart carefully and find the right size for your dog. We have a total of 7 sizes for any types of dogs. Especially Small-Long and Medium-Long are perfect options for long snout dogs such as dachshunds or corgis!
Let's take a look at this Yorkie. Her body measurements are 9" in the neck and 5" from her neck to the snout. So "XS" is perfect size for her. As you can see, her nose is safely inside the cone. You should make sure the nose is inside a cone so that you can avoid any issues.
You could adjust the size with multiple snaps or even tread your dog's neck collar or gauze to Elastic loops to secure the cone.
We wanted to avoid using Velcro because Velcro easily attracts debris including dog and pet's hair and specially puppies hate the velcro sounds.
